Just means, scandals hold more interest in the public eye!. No-one will forget the sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and her rumored love affairs with the nation's president and her tragic death due to what may have been an overdose and still she is idolized by many young women today!. And if you think about it who do you think will be remembered 100 years from now, Pamela Anderson or Jessica Alba!.!.!.!.I think Pamela for the simple reason that shes a "bad girl" and Jessica Alba is sweet and good natured !. Marie Antoinette, she lived like a rock star in an age and time that it lead ti her demise, but we wont forget her even though she was waaay before our time!. Fact is no-one will forget the the bad girls because they all hold a significant at some point!. Marilyn was beautiful, women wanted to be her men wanted to be with her and so much so even celebs today are inspired!. !.!.!.
But that saying only holds so much truth because, of course, there are so very many good, even great women that have been put in the history books and will never be forgotten!.!.!.Joan of Ark, Amelia Earhart, Mother Theresa and so many others!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I think it is true on the whole!. 'Good girls' generally means docile, compliant, doing what they are told etc!. this seldom applies to the really interesting women of history!.

For instance, although the comment above suggests Hildegarde of Bingen, she was in fact quite a stirrer-upper in her day, bomabarding the rulers of her era with advice (not always asked for) and holding some quite controversial opinions!.

Joan of Arc obstinately refused to go home when she was told to, and bothered people until they took her to see the Dauphin, she was obstinate and argumentative!.

Florence Nightingale made a pest of herself in the Crimean War, refusing to go away, and actually smashing in the door of a locked cabinet full of medical supplies when she was refused access to it!. so although what she did was very good indeed, she was not 'good' in the accepted sense of being compliant and obedient!.

Harriet Tubman ran away from slavery, which was a crime in the south, and she helped other slaves escape, which was also a crime, so she was not 'good' in the sense that she broke laws!.

It all depends on your definition of 'good' really, but it is possible to argue that most of the 'good' women of history were quite troublesome in their different ways!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It means that only the people who are bad, do things out of ordinary practice(which doesn't have to bad in this case) and have a reputation will go down in history and be remembered for what they did!. If you did something out of what was expected of girls in that time then you would be remembered!. Like Florence Nightingale!. Nobody wanted her to be a nurse because the hospitals were seen to be bad dirty places not fit for women and many people frowned upon her for doing it even though she saved many lives!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, this seems to hold true for both genders, unfortunately!. It is just like the media, bad news sells and it is (sad but true) more interesting!. That is human nature!.

There are good women in the history books, look at Madame Curie, Florence Nightengale, Harriett Tubman, Ann Frank, etc!.

However, most people will remember women like Eva Peron for her scandalous means of getting to the top as wife of the president of Argentina, Jaun Peron!. Or how about Imelda Marcos and her shoes!? Or Anna Nicole Smith!? Everybody loves a scandal (even if they don't want to admit it)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with Louise!. The good girl of the ancient time was the silent, obedient, prudish one, the good mother who took care of her husband and children without a complaint and was so discreet she was forgotten as soon as the door was closed!.
That's not the recipe for becoming famous!.
Since any other kind of woman was considered shocking she would be remembered and maybe even become famous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Olympe de Gouge- she fought for the Women rights during the French Revolution!. I haven't found her mentioned in my high school history book however there is material about her in lots of book about the French Revolution and the Role of women in the Civil Rights movementWww@QuestionHome@Com

Stupidity!. It means that only the scandalous ever get remarked!.

Hildegard von Bingen, St Teresa of Avila, or Florence Nightingale were all of them very good girls, I don't notice history forgot them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
