Question: Why hasn't a dictatorship never blossomed in the US - but in Germany, Spain, France, Italy!.!.!.!?
Even if some could regard Bush as a dictator, that's a subjective appreciation!. By dictatorship I mean a regime that prosecutes its citizens and deprives them of liberties, supresses disent by force (not by the 'market'), closes media institutions (as Milosevic and B92) and in general practices an international policy of alienation (such as Hitler or maréchal Petain)Www@QuestionHome@Com

that's a good question!. i really dont know!. maybe it was established as a democracy because they didn't want to be like oppressive england and its monarchy!.
and the bush administration is definitely not a dictatorship!. people who claim that it is mustn't know what a dictatorship even is, so why are they making claims out of ignorance, anyway!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

People in Guantanamo have been there five years and only a handful have been in trial!. Same in Iraq and Afghanistan prisons!. also, a lot of American citizens have been rounded up and arrested on "secret evidence" and were not allowed to testify in their own defense etc!. They are still sitting there in prison today just because some neocon press release smeared them as a supporter of terrorism and it ended up on FOX News!. Because the victims are usually Muslims and Arabs (but not always), you think it's not a problem I guess!. But anyway the Patriot Act has essentially revoked the Constitution!.

The media institutions are extremely controlled in the US and the type of verbage actually mimics Nazi Germany!. For example using the word "terrorist" as a racial category and assuming guilt until proven innocent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because Americans have been taught for over two hundred years, that we are a free country governed the Constitution!. The founding fathers put checks and balances in our Constitution that would make it difficult for a dictator to emerge!. The right to bear arms is on of those checks!. If we have an armed populace it makes it hard to a tyrant to do a military take over!. The people would be armed and could rebel against any tyrant!. We asAmericans love our freedom and many of us would choose to die before giving it up to any tyrant!.
Most Dictators emerge through military takeovers and during times of National turmoil!. Hitler for example took over Germany after WW1!. At that time people in Germany experienced rapid inflation and couldn't even buy food!. Hitler rose to power offering the people hope and blaming the Jews for their problems!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The type of dictatorship you speak of is simply this: One leader using the power of a few select judges to make and create laws as they see fit!. But that dictator has such influence over these judges that his will is imposed on the masses!. such as Hitler, Stalin, and such!. We as a country need to be very careful that our Supreme court judges are kept in check!. It is their law to interpret the law not make law!. In California the Supreme court went against the peoples court of keeping the sanctity of Marriage between one man and one woman to include same sex marriages!. Issues like these that don't seem to be as important on the surface is actually very important wen it comes to the definition of democracy!. Currently we are not a part of a dictatorship but soon if we keep allowing Government to make more decisions for us and controlling every facet of our economy and beliefs we will be in a dictatorship before we know it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dictatorships took hold in the countries you mentioned during a time when it was easier to do so!. In the US, you would have a lot of obstacles bypassing or overcoming the two party system to institutionalize a government where you could have a dictatorship!. Especially now in the information age this would be impossible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

actually some1 has developed some type of cycle of types of world leaders that is accurate in the cycle
and apparently a dictatorship is comin up in that cycle
but the cycle showed hitler
it showed reagan
and it showed clinton
soooo
ya
im think that hillary clinton could b this next dictatorWww@QuestionHome@Com

because we have checks and balances!. no one can ever get too powerful!. if there was a president who tried to become all-powerful, the supreme court and congress could stop him!. and if someone tried to overthrow our government, i doubt they would be too successful!.!.!.we're pretty powerful as a nation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I suspect that the reason for this lies in two things!.

1!. The diversity of the country!. The US, as a hodgepodge of cultures, political persuasions and backgrounds has proven to be un-fertile ground for dictatorship!. Many immigrants came here fleeing dictatorships of one sort or another, and they jealously gaurded their freedoms here!.

2!. The flexibility of our form of government - democratic ideals have deep roots here (as they do in Britain, BTW, which has also been able to avoid dictatorship)!. Some scholars have noted that the US might have fallen to a communist or socialist uprising in the midle 1930's, but instead, FDR was elected, and he was able to create enough socialist reforms, aimed at aiding the suffering of the common Americans at the expense of the wealthy, to undercut any revolutionary movements!. That's just one example!.

There are other factors, of course!. Among them seems to be luck, and also a deep respect for the constitution, and a fierce, jealous gaurdianship of the Bill of rights!. I am sad to say that I think the devotion to those rights and to maintaining them is fallen into disfavor these days, and those rights have been undercut and eroded considerably!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
