Question: Is it true that the Ancient Egyptians had a base 8 number system!? If so how is it known!?

The Egyptians had a pictorial numeral system very similar to the Roman Numeral system with which you may be familiar (I, II, III, IV, V, etc)!.!.!. It was in Base Ten!. here are some of the symbols that they used:

It is known from the most basic archeology, looking at old 'documents' that were dug up!. When you see series of check marks next to one another it is very obvious that it is a counting system!. It may also have something to do with the Rosetta Stone, but i don't think so!.

The Babylonians used base 6 (which is why we have 24 hour days, and 360 degrees in a circle) perhaps that's what you're thinking of!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
