Tha Korean War was in effect the first large "hot" battle of the cold war!.We were basically fighting the Russians in proxy the whole time!.The equipment was basically the same for both armies!.The main difference was the overwhelming Chinese numbers!.
As far as the T-34 tank is concerned, Bad tank terrain and effective anti-tank weapons coupled with our air superiority rendered them less effective than they were in WW2 eastern front!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Koreans were equipped both by the Chinese and the Russians, they has equipment equal to ours!. While our men still had the M1-Garande rifle, one of the best, they had the AK-47 rifles, one of the best!. The T-34 did little good in the hills and rice paddies!.

They were not well trained and from a friends point of view, they were doped up a lot and forced to attack under penalty of death!.

He told of one hill in the middle of the worst winter they had!. The only thing that saved his unit was the improperly supplied sleeping bags and blankets!. They handed out summer sleeping bags and it was thirty-eight below zero!. The men of course couldn't sleep, the lucky ones got three and four sleeping bags!.
Almost all the me were awake and of course alert!. That night there was major attack, all the men were up and faced the Koreans most ended up in hand to hand combat, the attackers were overwhelming them by sheer numbers!.
In front of his machine Gun emplacement, they counted the dead attackers as piled to eight deep as far as one could see!. Most had some sort of narcotics on them, the few wounded didn't seem to be in pain!. So goes the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Soviet union actually did enter this war, but they did very little besides supply China and Korea, i think they only lost like 10,000 soldiers overall (America was in direct conflict and lost about 53,000)!.

North Korea was armed by the russians, same with China!. Tanks weren't good use in North Korea due to the terrain!. China and Korea expected Russia to take care of the bombing, which they did a little but U!.S!. still had a lot of air superiority!. The South Korean weren pretty much incompetant of defending themselves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The North Koreans were well armed by Russia when they crossed the border, complete with T-34 tanks, which American bazooka rounds bounced off of!. When China entered the war, they were also well armed!. The South Korean army, on the other hand, was lightly armed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

At that point of time, both Koreas and China had very little modern weapons!. China had a slight edge because Mao's efforts were needed during WWII in defeating Japan!.
