Question: Galileo or Da Vinci!?

Galileo was an actual scientist, da Vinci was an artist!. Galileo postulated life on other planets, and devised clever mechanisms to prove his thesis' empirically!.

Leonardo was very interested in mechanics and a school of thought known as "Fibonacci" which was a psuedo-science based on the "golden section"!. He also studied classical inventors from ancient Alexandria to devise most of his concepts!.

I would have to say that because Galileo was an empirical scientist, and Leonardo was a sort of creative magician, that Galileo was probably more important to science and knowledge!.

But with respect, it's still a tough choice!. They were both a product of the Protestant Reformation and the Renaissances!. They both believed in the ancient stoic traditions of the pursuit of knowledge rather than adhering to the numbing papal rites that generations prior had been stifled by!. I agree with the first poster!. Galileo helped discover the universe, how it worked and how to view it!. While Da Vinci invented flying machines, early sonar and other inventions for mankind and did famous artwork!. They were both geniuses in their own right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Galileo's contribution certainly seems more greater having to deal with the very nature of the universe and our place in it!. However Da Vinci was a prolific inventor with many inventions far beyond his time who inspired millions!. It's a toss up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Galileo is more of a scientific person because he contributed to astronomy!. Da Vinci is more of a religious contributer and an art contributer because he made artwork AND helped people believe in their religious faith!.
