There's some truth in that!. It's also true that Santa Anna was a tyrant who reneged on things promised to the settlers and was unnecessarily brutal with both Mexicans and Americans in crushing resistance!. There were good guys and bad guys on both sides, but the early tensions were much about slavery which was illegal in Mexico and Texas was still Mexican!. (Most of the Americans who died there did NOT own slaves however!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It all depends on viewpoint!. Many of the Americans who fought at the Alamo had originally settled in Texas after agreeing to live under the conditions set by Mexico!. Others migrated to Texas without ever accepting the sovereignty of the Mexican government over Texas!. And the fact is it was not just Americans who fought at the Alamo!. Many of the defenders were hispanic!. Many of the other defenders, even though they spoke English, did not consider themselves American, but Texan!. They were fighting for an independant nation!. So from their viewpoint they were were revolutionaries seeking freedom!. From the Mexican government's point of view they were either outright traitors or foreign instigators of rebellion!. People always like to believe that they are allied with the saints and their enemies with the devil, but the fact is good people on both sides fought for what they thought right, and bad people on both sides fought for their own gain!. What cannot be questioned is that both sides were willing to risk death to gain victory!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Santa Anna was a tyrant !. A dictator that would kill anyone to stay in power !. The citizens of Texas , including those of Spanish descent , chose freedom over a dictators rule !. They bravely fought and died for the idea of a better life for all the citizens of the land of Texas !. Tell your teacher that not all those that fought against Santa Anna were Americans , but they all were heroes for opposing the tyranny that Santa Anna imposed on all the people of Mexico !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Requiring me to change religions and languages would not be "simple conditions"!.

The Texans wanted independence from the rule of tyrants!. The men at the Alamo all sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom!. Ultimately Texas did get free from Mexico!Www@QuestionHome@Com

tell your teacher to check his/her facts - this type of historic distortion is sick!
The Battle (and siege) of the Alamo took place at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio, Texas (then known as "San Antonio de Béxar") in February and March 1836!. As part of the Texas Revolution, the battle was between the Republic of Mexico and the rebel Texian forces, including both Whites and Blacks (from the United States) and Tejanos (Mexicans in Texas), during the Texians' fight for independence — the Texas Revolution!. The 13-day siege started Tuesday, February 23, 1836, and ended on Sunday, March 6, 1836, with the capture of the mission and the death of nearly all the Texian and Tejano defenders, except for a few slaves, women and children!. Despite the win, the 13-day holdout stalled the Mexican Army, and allowed Sam Houston to gather troops and supplies for his later success at the Battle of San Jacinto!. The Texian revolutionaries went on to win the war!.

The battle took place at a turning point in the Texas Revolution, which had begun with the October 1835 Consultation, whose delegates narrowly approved a call for rights under the Mexican Constitution of 1824!. By the time of the battle, however, sympathy for declaring independence from Mexico had grown!. The delegates from the Alamo to the Constitutional Convention were both instructed to vote for independence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
