Jefferson was in debt after leaving the white house because he didn't have funding for things that presidents have today, such as paying workers in the white house!. Today, presidents not only receive a salary, but get free food, insurance, and secretaries!. The members of their cabinet and other advisors and workers are also paid by the government!. Jefferson had to pay for all that himself, and he didn't get a large salary!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
