The Soviet Union was composed of the following republics:
Armenian (Soviet Socialist Republic) SSR, Azerbaijan SSR, Byelorussian SSR, Estonian SSR, Georgian SSR, Kazakh SSR, Kirghiz SSR, Latvian SSR, Lithuanian SSR, Moldavian SSR, Russian SFSR, Tajik SSR, Turkmen SSR, Ukrainian SSR, and Uzbek SSR!.

The Russian Federation had at various times the following republics:
Bashkir (Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) ASSR
Buryat ASSR
Dagestan ASSR
Yakut ASSR
Kabardino-Balkar ASSR
Kalmyk ASSR
Karelian ASSR
Komi ASSR
Mari ASSR
Mordovian ASSR
