During WWII, the V-1 flying bombs that Germany fired at England were propelled by alcohol and peroxide!. One night, a V-1 was shot down over an American camp!. The next morning, the soldiers awoke to discover that their hair, faces, even their tents and sleeping bags had been bleached white by the peroxide!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's two:

During the boxer rebellion, the brits hired hindus as merceneries!. Everything was going swimmingly until the hindus found out that the bullets in the gun they were given were covered with wax imbued with pig fat!. Since they had to literally bite the bullet before chambering it, they could not, because of the stricture about ingesting cow products!. The hindus stopped fighting and left the Brits with considerably fewer merceneries!.

This next one is not an event, but rather a surprising fact of the history of America!.

When the dutch settled New York, the first major trade with the indians was the fur trade!. They gave the Dutch furs, in return for European fabrics!. Remember now this is very early in American History, and the Spaniards had not even extended up into California in a major way!.

The indians loved the fabrics, and they quickly spread out among the 500 nations!. But the west coast indians loved them particularly, and the indians there quickly incorporated them into very lovely clothing!.

By the time the first white settlers came to California in real numbers, the Indians there were generally dressed much better than the settlers!. In silks and fine satins and laces!.

That is a revelation to people who think they have a grasp on the settling of America!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Columbus and his men were shipwrecked and waiting months for a supply/rescue boat coming from england or spain!. In the mean time they were being looked after and assisted by natives of the land on which they had shipwrecked!. The natives grew tired of them and refused to provide food and were growing hostile!. Columbus knew from his almanac that a lunar eclipse was going to happen!. He told the natives that his god was angry with them and was going to remove the moon from the night's sky and told them exactly when this would happen!. Of course, the moon went black at the time he said!. The natives were scared and threw themselves at Columbus and promised to do whatever was necessary to assist him if he could interviene with his god to return the moon!. Columbus said he would see what he could do and went in his quarters and read a book for a while!. He returned and said that it had been tough to convince his god, but that eventually god had agreed to return the moon and would do so in the next 45 minutes!. The moon, of course reappeared!. These events most likely saved Columbus and his crews lives!. You should research the exact facts on the net if you plan to do a report on it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
