When the south left the Union it was burned by the union to destroy it, but it sunk before it could be totally destroyed!. The south raised it and turned it into an ironclad named CSS Virgina!. I'm not sure, but I suspect this probably took place in Portsmouth, VA where the Merrimack was sunk by the union!. 2!. She was built in 1855, but was turned into an ironclad in 1862!. 3!. It was one of the early "iron clad" ships that were covered in metal plates to protect them from canon fire!.
