Not to crush the Japanese people!. We helped them transition to a more democratic society, rebuild their manufacturing, and keep those aspects of their culture that didn't contribute to miltarism!. We did NOT allow them to build an army except for civil defense--that is just now changing!. We have stayed in Japan on military bases since post WW II!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
