Cuba was once of the first Islands conquered by the Spanish under Columbus!. It remained a Spanish possession until 1898, when the US took it from Spain during the Spanish American War (along with the Phillipene Islands and Puerto Rico)!. In those almost 400 years, even though many African slaves were brought there to work, the official language and the language of trade remained Spanish, and so it remains to this day!. In terms of why they kept Spanish as the language, it's not at all unlike Mexico!. For that matter, plase note that Brazil still speaks Portugese, although they were under the rule of Portugal for only 322 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they speak spanish b/c columbus landed there and claimed the island for spain, however b/c of it's location (caribbean, slave trade, so close to the US) it has many different cultural influences in it's modern (growing steadily more modern by the minute since raul too over for his bro fidel) culture

it was originally inhabited by aboriginal native tribes however before spain landed thereWww@QuestionHome@Com

For the same reason that Americans speak English

The Spanish overran the cultures of the Americas and the Carribean with murder and using their religion as a weapon!. Indian people were tortured until they "converted", and all of that gold going back to Europe on those Spanish ships was stolen from the peoples of South/Central/MesoAmerica and the West Indies!. To have your culture and language stolen from you is the greatest form of disrespect, and the highest level of ignorance!. No one will ever know completely how much was lost in the way of knowledge from these incredible peoples!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cuba was inhabited by three different cultures the Ciboneyes, Taino and Guanahatabeyes!. The
