Question: During the Battle of Gettysburg, what was George Picketts Charge!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
pickett's charge!. during the last day of the battle of Gettysburg, the Union troops were along a ridgeline about a mile from the Confederates!. General George Pickett really wanted to fight/charge and was eventually granted permission!. the persmission, i believe given by longstreet or someone like that was given very reluctantly--he believed they would fail!. after 2 hours of artillery on the union line (they were trying to "soften them up but didn't know they were actually aiming behind them)the brave rebels marched in a group of over 15,000, a mile wide and half mile deep!. they had to march across a big open field though and just about every one of them was mowed down by the Union before they could even reach the stone wall on top of the ridge they were hiding behind!. it is probably the most famous battle of the war, and really a big turning point!. very brave men, very sad!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you ever go to Gettysburg, you can stand behind the stone wall and look out over the field, and imagine 15,000 Confederates coming across it; a field a half mile deep and NOT A SCRAP OF COVER, marching into the massed rifle and musket fire of 20,000 Union troops!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.rent the movie Gettysburg or read the Killer Angels!.!.!.!.!.!.and marvel at their bravery and know they hadn't a chance

and remember the words of another general in another time and another place!. watching his troops cutting down the enemy!.!.!.!.!.!." They are brave men!.!.!.!.!.but this is not war"Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was the south's final attack (charge)on the union forces(they were trying to break the union line) and they fail, which pretty much ended the battle!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
