The American people hated Communism, not just the politicians or the military, so it ran much deeper!. Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: This is quite simple to understand without listing a bunch of "rhetorical" explanations!. America feared the proliferation of communism!. it's that simple!. The USSR and all the other satellite communist countries had government-organized non-capitalistic economies!. This is the exact opposite of the U!.S!.'s economy!. So, as communism spread, it was like a tourniquet was being put on the American economy!. if most of the world turned communist, then the U!.S!. economy would be ruined, thus eroding at the infrastructures of its society!. The cold war was about economics!.!.!.America wanted a world of capitalism and the USSR wanted a world of communism!. All war is based on economics!.!.!.freedom, religion, patriotism, this all is only under the umbrella of economics!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The American (and other Capitalist democracies, as well) feared communism going back to the time of the Russian revolution!. The chaos and bloodshed of the Revolution shocked the West, and the stated aims of the communists was to overthrow capitalism everywhere!. By the end of the Second World War, tose fears had grown!. The Soviet Union had proven itself a major industrial and military power, and when it gobbled up all of Eastern Europe, the fear rose to almost a hysteria!. The Soviets were seen as viscious, brutal, totalitarian, anti-religious "Easterners" and they were also seen as terribly tricky and conning!. Remeber, there's a lot of evidence to suggest that the Soviets were intensively spying on the US and the West throughout the war years, and they stepped up their efforts after the war!. The Soviet penetration of several key programs, most significantly, the nucelar weapons program, was terrifying!. In America, the growing Cold War was, rightfully, perhaps, painted in terms of containing and isolating the aggressive, expansionist Communists to prevent them from taking by force the rest of the world!. Again, remember that it was the stated aim of the Soviets to do just that!. When China went communist in 1949, those fears of a Communist steamroller grew, which helps explain not only the Red Scare in the US, but the US committment to defending Korea, and the development of the faulty ideas that took us to Vietnam, as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The Americans were fearing an attempt of the Soviets to extend Communism to America and in the 60's there were attempts to create an American Communist Party!. The Communism was a concept totally opposite to Capitalism and the American lifestyle, not to mention the constant threat of war with Russia, all the media were pointed to make the Russians look as the enemy, some tyrannic Communists that wanted to invade our country if not by means of weapons by means of ideology so the best way to prevent this was to make the Americans hate Communism and that's what happened!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The Communists advocated world revolution and advocated the overthrow of the established political and social orders and attempted to export it to the United States and other nations!. Ideologically the US and Communists systems could not be more different!. The US democratic system stresses the rights of the individual!. The communist system stresses the power of the collective!.
