With that in mind, I'd be very appreciative if someone could explain to me what the ancient Egyptians put on their second coffin!. What are the hieroglyphics' purpose!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It generally depends on the mummy and the religious beliefs and artistic style of the times!. First it would contain a name and other things to identify the mummy!. Most of the rest would be decoration or things preparing the body for the underworld and even some curses to protect it from theives and evil spirits!.

One of the most beautiful sarcophagus' is a wooden one believed to be Akhenaten's!. (Thanks to a recent ct scan) The face and name were destroyed so that the body could not be identified!. Here's a picture of it!. http://images!.search!.yahoo!.com/images/vi!.!.!.

Do you need anything more specific!? It would help me help you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Ten" has given you good info!.
What was usually written was the name of the individual and, REALLY, stuff like "Husband of Mary, Father of Patricia and John, Grandfather!.!.!."!. also his dates!.
Then, if he was a person of substance, which he probably was or he wouldn't have been buried in that fashion - his titles and accomplishments would be listed!. They often used images to show his homes, slaves, things that he owned in other words!.
