Question: What if!.!.!.!.!.!.!.The Revolution failed!?
If the American colonies had lost the Revolution, what would the British have done to prevent another rebellion!? Would it have even been possible to wage another revolution in the future now that we would've been under tighter control and could we have had a chance in the first place without the help of the French!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well if history tells us anything - a people occupying there home land want freedom, they will win out (see Vietnam)!. If we had lost the Revolutionary War in the 1770's and 1780's, we would of gain Independence sometime in the next 50 years!. It would of became too expensive for the British to keep a large military force in the colonies!. Remember, the British had a world empire with a lot of enemies AND if there was no American Revolution, there is no French Revolution - so the British/French conflicts would of continued as it did centuries before!.

I'm not sure we could of really lost the Revolutionary War!. We would of continually had support from France!. As long as that support was coming, how could of it really end!? It's not like the American Rebels needed French manpower - they needed money, weapons and the it's fleet!. The French fleet hassling the British was something that was going to happen with or without an American Revolution!.

I do not think the American Revolution would be successful without support from France!. Perhaps on the battlefield it would of taken longer and it would of been very difficult for the Americans to obtain weapons but the fight would always be there!. Perhaps we would of saw more guerrilla type attacks or terrorist attacks on British troops!. The one thing the Americans needed that the French had and we would of not beaten the British was the French Fleet!. If you think about it - if the British only fought along the coast - they would of had a "way out" of a bad situation!.

It was always in the best interest for the British to control the ports in the American colonies - that was where the wealth was located!. As I stated before, by being on the coast it provided a "trap door" for troops to escape a bad situation!. Remember, the Battle of Yorktown was won because the French Fleet had the British Army bottle up in Virginia!. Had the French Fleet not been there OR was beaten - the British would of been either to resupply or retreat and the war would of continued!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends a lot on the leader in charge, nature of the rebellions, etc!.

England would have likely relinquished control at some point, as was done with India, parts of Africa, and various other countries which it's colonized at various periods!. However, because imperialism being halted was in large part a result of the world wars, and because who KNOWS what would have happened in the world wars if not for the presence of the US for good or ill!.

Hell, if you follow the rise and fall of most empires, it's entirely possible that England would develop an extensive empire, become unable to defend/control the whole thing at some point, and fall!.

Which would probably create a VAST power vacuum, and!.!.!.

My brain hurts!. The possible ramifications are endless, and most are negative!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We would have gained independence eventually, just as their other possessions of that time period have!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

at this point i'm starting to think we'd been better off under the brits!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
