He was in a position to act and it was the right thing to do!.

Nobody can explain why he chose to risk his own life and defy the Nazis!.

OSKAR SCHINDLER: An Unlikely Hero

Asked why he had intervened on behalf of the Jews, Schindler replied:

"The persecution of Jews in the General Government in Polish territory gradually worsened in its cruelty!.
In 1939 and 1940 they were forced to wear the Star of David and were herded together and confined in ghettos!.
In 1941 and 1942 this unadulterated sadism was fully revealed!.
And then a thinking man, who had overcome his inner cowardice, simply had to help!.
There was no other choice!."

Nobody knows!.

He was a selfish man before and after the war - in fact, he lived off of the generosity of the men whose lives he saved - and no one understands what he saved them!.

His widow was very bitter about Oskar and equally baffled at this uncharacteristic generosity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
