Question: Need help starting my thesis for my MLA paper!.!.!.!.!?
I'm researching Mayan & Aztec mythology for my MLA paper [which is 6 awesome pages lol]
I met with my teacher today and she hinted how she would like it to tie the thesis to the class!.!.!. we are talking about how important culture is to our identity and as a community!.!.!.
she wrote down:
Roots
Importance
Self identity
strong community
and told me to make a thesis out of that!.!.!.
but how am i going to tie that in with the Aztecs and the Mayan!?!?
Or can you suggest another thesis that would be good too!?

I think you really should be asking yourself who were the Aztecs and who were the Mayans!?
What was the role of men and women!? were they equal!? Did women play a greater role than what they would!? How was government comprised!? Did all citizens play an role in the politics!? Was their a system of elders such as in Sparta that had democratic elements in it!? Or was it a top-down society!?
What political, social, economic, religious, cultural aspects of their society made them different from other medieval empires and socieites!? What role did the king or ruler play!? was he a figure head that united all parties to form a nation - or did he use brutal force to hold the clans together!?
you have to remember that we create our socieites and our nations by a sense of belonging - common themes such as political, religious, social ties make us a community and a nation - what made the aztecs or the mayans a nation!?
Did their civilisations simply crumble when their was no more army or force to coerce them!? Did the Spanish invasion destroy the role of the king and the military as a force of coercion, which led to the fall of the nation!?
how did they construct identity!? what part did geography play in this - what rivers or geographical features played a part in where and how their civilisation developed!?
What is the role of religion!? did religion help them explain who they were just like it helped the egyptians to explain their own being and life!? What was the role of human sacrifice!? Was it to appease the gods or was it simply crime and punishment!? What did they do with anyone that didnt 'fit in'!?
And how did they build upon this identity to go on and conquer others - why did they need to conquer!? were they self-sufficient!? Did they have farms, agriculture!? What was their main diet, sources of food!? Who determined or what determined the role of individuals in that society!?

I'm no expert on mayan or aztec culture, but Im sure they had a very strong community!. People probably aidentified themselves by their place in the community!. There was a heirarchy!. To them, none of their traditions were odd, as we would find them!. They would probably find the way we behave odd!. So, to them their community is everything (wasn't banishment the worst punishment for them!?) Maybe you can make a statement about how their are so many unique cultures and each one is considered the only way of life for it's population!. hope this helps you on your thesis!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
