Well, after the fall of the last dynasty, there were two major political groups that wanted to change China!.

One was the National party and the other was the Communist party!. They both had different ideas!. One man, Dr!. Sun was able to bring them together and acted as a unity!. However, when he died, the unity was broken and each wanted to have their own ideas!. The nationalist party led by Chiang Kai shek initiated a preemptive strike against he communist party which was led by Mao!. He drove the communist party into hiding which was known as the Long March!.

Then, because of the Japanese invasion, the Nationalist had to give up on fighting the communists and negotiated with them and they would fight for one common enemy, the Japanese!.

Long story short, after WWII, the Nationalist Party who fought against the Japanese became tired from the war because they were the main forces that fought them!. Their morale were also low and their party was corrupted!. In addition, their soldiers were poorly trained Because of their disadvantages the Communist party which were better trained and equipped, defeated the nationalists and took over China!.

The Nationalist party fled to Taiwan or formerly known as Formosa and the USA aided them to prevent Communist influence and the US would hope one day the Republic which is a democracy would influence mainland which is now not the case!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your mean The Chinese Civil War(中共内战 Guógòng Neìzhàn)!?

Here is your answer:

which lasted from April 1927 to May 1950, was a civil war in China between the Kuomintang (KMT or Chinese Nationalist Party) and the Chinese Communist Party (CPC)!.

The war began in 1927, after the Northern Expedition!.The war represented an ideological split between the Western-supported Nationalist KMT, and the Soviet-supported Communist CPC!.

The civil war carried on intermittently until the looming Second Sino-Japanese War interrupted it, resulting in an organized and temporary Chinese resistance to the Japanese invasion!. The Japanese assault and occupation was an opportunistic attack made possible by China's own state of internal turmoil!. Japan's campaign was defeated in August, 1945 by the Allies, marking the end of World War II, and China's full-scale civil war resumed in 1946!. Hostilities ended after 23 years in 1950, with an unofficial cessation of major hostilities, with the CPC controlling mainland China (including Hainan Island) and the KMT restricted to their remaining territories of Taiwan, Pescadores, and the several outlying Fujianese islands!. To this day, no official armistice has ever been signed, although the two sides have close economic ties!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Once the fighting in Chinese Civil War came to an end in 1949, and a clear victory was achieved by the Chinese Communists, the People's Republic of China was declared on October 1st, 1949!. It is still the P!.R!.C!. today!.

Unfortunately, the losers, the Chinese Nationalists did not know that they had lost the war, and they retreated to the small island of Formosa, which is now called Taiwan!. Once there, the Nationalists assumed total control, which was quite bloody and non-democratic!. A great purge of any opposition to the Nationalists (real or imaginary) was either killed (see the 'February 28th Incident') or imprisoned and tortured (see the ('White Terror')!. For decades after the dictator Chiang Kai-shek, and then his son Chiang Ching-Kuo would claim to be the sole legitimate government of China, which they claimed also included Mongolia!

For years the people of the "Republic of China" lived under martial law, a one-party rule (the Chinese Nationalist Party, or the Kuomintang, or KMT) all the while calling the R!.O!.C!. "Free China" and enjoying the recognition of the United States and the United Nations as a bona fide nation!. That ended in October, 1971, when the People's Republic of China was given recognition as the only China, and given a seat in the U!.N!. as well as membership in the United Nations Security Council!.

As for the U!.S!., who were slower to react, full diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the U!.S!.A!. came in 1979!. Today both the U!.S!. and the U!.N!. only recognize the P!.R!.C!., and neither recognizes the R!.O!.C!. It is a telling statement on both the U!.N!. and the U!.S!. and how they were able to block a LEGITIMATE nation of nearly 1 billion people for 20-30 years in favour of an ILLEGITIMATE nation as part of a Cold War political policy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
