In medieval times, village life revolved around the church!. The Manor court, which was made up of officials elected from among the villagers themselves, often met in the churchyard, and of course everyone would go to Sunday services, and probably to Mass on other days as well!.

Saints Days were holidays, and there were a lot of them, Christmas lasted for thirteen days for instance, and Easter, Pentecost and Corpus Christi were other major holidays, and there were many other days inbetween!.

The church provided education to poor children (about one peasant boy in ten became a clergyman), they had hospitals where they tended the sick and dying, and they gave alms to the poor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Church cared for the poor in turn when they were able to give back in labor and time, they did so!.
It was the Church that started hospitals, caring for the poor, feeding and clothing distribution and many other charitable works!. Before poor people were treated horribly, left to die when they were sick or old!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
