Question: Why did the french and english migrate to North America!?

Some, including some of my ancestors, came "to be free to practice their own religion freely and make everyone else do the same", which is too close to the truth!. Most religious colonists were highly intolerant of other religions and thought it was there duty to convert, even forcibly, the "heathen Natives" as well as other colonists of different denominations!.

The fur trade had a lot to do with this as did tobacco, sugar cane, precious metals and other crops that could be shipped back to Europe!.

Georgia was originally an English penal colony, as was Australia later!. When the prisoners had served their sentences, they were turned loose to colonize!.

Some people just wanted to see more of the world and were looking for an adventure!. Others were fleeing shady pasts!. There may have been almost as many reasons as there were families!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
