France was already a unified nation-state in the 19th century!. Now, Germany became a unified nation-state in the 19th century as a result of three wars:

1!. The Prussian-Danish War 1864 in which Prussian annexed the German-speaking portion of Schleswig-Holstein!.
2!. The Austro-Prussian War 1866 in which Prussia defeated Austria for the leadership of the German states in central Europe!.
3!. The Franco-Prussian War 1870-71 in which Prussia (in the name of the North German Confederation) in a military alliance with the three southern German states of Baden, Wuerttemberg, and Bavaria invaded France and annexed the entire French province of Alsace and most of the province of Lorraine!.

The Franco-Prussian War led to the end of the Second Empire under Napoleon III and the creation of the Third French Republic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
