He founded the company in 1997 based on the belief that the network topology change from old legacy circuit switched network technology to the new packet-based switching environment would produce new opportunities and cost benefits!. Robert has used his past business and network engineering expertise to his benefit constructing key business alliances which have greatly benefited both the customer and Backbone!. Backbone is Robert’s second telecommunications venture!. Prior to Backbone, he launched Bittel Telecommunications Corporation in 1988, a long distance telecommunications service provider based in San Francisco!. Within four years the company grew from providing services solely in San Francisco to serving more than 22 metro areas in the U!.S!. before being acquired by Brooks Fiber Properties in 1996!.
