Industry generally was booming in the U!.S!., hence the roaring twenties!. We just got out of WWI and none of the fighting took place in the country!. This was the mainstream industrial revolution!. We had a multitude of factories with assembly lines!. Women were starting to work and incomes were steady!. Agriculture was still needed but planting was very hard to get by on when all the jobs are now in the city!. In Europe, the 1920's were not so glorious!. The first signs of the depression are kicking because of the aftermath of World War I!. Of coarse, life was not so great when the stock market crashed in 1929!. The U!.S!. relied on the world market also!. So when the world market was in a slump, the U!.S!. joined them eventually!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Agriculture was in a Depression throughout the entire '20s!. Prices were low which helped the consumer but devastated the farmers!. When the Great Depression came, the rest of the country suffered the fate the farmers had felt for ten years already!.

Industry was trying to re-gear from WW1 and moved towards greater consumer goods for the American public!. But heavy industry had problems due to reduced exports to the larger western nations who were bankrupt after WW1!.

Agriculture was a hard, dirt, and dangerous way to make a living!. Modern farms might have a steam powered tractor!. This wasn't to pull implements, but to run stationary machines like thrashers!. Most work was done by hand or with real horses for horse power!.

One big difference to modern farms is that farms back then were more self sufficient!. A farm would have not only row crops for feed and market, but a vegetable garden, most all had a cow for milk even if they didn't have cattle!.
