It was made for entertainment, which isn't listed!. There were many fights between humans, humans and animals, and groups of people against numerous things!.

I think that it was designed the way it was because!.!. Well!.!.!. That's Roman architecture for you! And of course they wanted the acoustics to be good!. They were all about functionality!. I think it was just a bonus that it looks amazing!. It possess every single art element you listed!. Lines of the circle, the shape is the circles and arcs, space is the wide opening in the center and around, texture is the brick-like material they used, there isn't much value or contrast though, unless there is a shadow cast on it!.

It definately has balance, it's very symmetrical, it doesn't have variety, again, because it is all very uniform, and that is also why it has proportion!. The movement it like ocean waves, because of the arcs, and the rhythm is like that of ocean waves too!. The harmony is constant, because of the uniformity of the structure!.

if you know anything about rome and its history you'd know that the colosseum was built on nero's homestead (after it was torn down)!. at the time of nero's early 'departure', anything to replace his palace would've done nicely!. when i look at the colosseum, what i'm looking at is their ancestry, the love of gambling and blood sport!. ages before rome became the center of the ancient world, the people of the northern part of italy, the etruscans thrived on people and animal blood sports!. the romans , not arriving out of a vacuum, inherited these early people's devices and demons!. the colosseum was class and flash and a testament to their early beginnings!. what's the saying, " the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
