Question: What happened to the USSR(or russia)!?

20 years ago they were a huge and rich country and now its all broken up and poor!. why!? what happened!? do you think the same thing could happen to the USA!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was a Communist power, that was the biggest factor!.

Communism survives on the money already in the system!. It doesn't really produce much and it drains a lot!. The USSR eventually ran themselves dry trying to keep up with the West, so they collapsed!.

It split into multiple countries because it had taken and held that land by means of force (not all of it physical force)!. The nations that broke off hadn't wanted to be part of it, but they had had to!.

America could go the same way, but it may be a while yet!. Then again, this next election may decide it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

20 years ago they were NOT a rich country!. The few times a Westerner was allowed to see the "real" USSR, it was always in Russia (or the Ukraine), and it was never real!. These scenes were carefully staged setting where everyone was happy and had an abundance of luxury items, like TVs, cars, and warm clothes!.

Once these stages were struck, the setting went back to one where people stood in long lines for meager rations of potatoes, cabbage, and little or no meat, shoes, or clothing!. Virtually no ordinary Russian owned a car, or even dreamed of owning a car!. Only Party elite would have such luxuries!.

The idea of a rich, powerful Soviet Union is one of the propagandist efforts!. In real life, the average Soviet citizen was a pauper!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Socialism and corruption busted up the USSR!. The people had to wait in line for like six hours for a roll of toilet paper!. Yes it could happen to the United States if we don't stop punishing achievement through higher taxes and removing initiative through social programs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
