Question: I need some authentic Romano-British names!?
I want to enter a creative writing competition, but it has to be connected with Roman Britain!. What sort of Christian names would ordinary Romano-British men and women have had!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

One would have expected them to have had Latinized Celtic names, but the reverse seems sometimes to have been the case!. The name Gladys, for instance, seems to be a Briticized version of Claudia!. Your best bet might be to look at some histories of Roman Britain, such as Tacitus' Agricola and Gildas' De Excidio Britanniae (Of the Destruction of Britain), along with modern histories of the time and place!. This isn't as monumental task as it may sound, since translations exist, and all you would really have to do is skim the index of each book for people's names and then look on the relevant pages to see whether those are names you would want to use!.
