The first major conflict for the Australians outside Australia was the deployment of Australian troops as part of a colonial detachment bound for the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879!. Australian forces fought in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), The Korean Conflict (1950-1953), and the Vietnam Conflict (1961-1975)!. Australian troops also took part in the Malyasia conflicts (1948-1960), were largely responsible for silencing the Iraqi SCUD batteries during the First Gulf Conflict (1990-1991), and are active participants in the current Afghani Conflict (2001-Present), and the Second Gulf Conflict (2003-Present)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Australia certainly has! In WWI, ANZAC (Australia & New Zealand) forces fought beside the other British Commonwealth forces and were particularly involved in the Gallipoli operations!. In WWII, Australia was threatened directly by Japanese invasion and bombing, and Australian Army forces fought alongside American in New Guinea campaign and RAN forces fought alongside the Americans, as well!. In addition, lots of ANZACs fought beside the British in North Africa to save Egypt from Rommel's Afrika Corps!.

More recently, Australian forces were involved in Veitnam as US allies, and are currently involved in Iraq and Afghanistan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Aussie soldiers were a major factor in the European theater in WW1 and WW2!. They have not seen major action as an independant nation, outside the Empire!. They have been in smaller actions in East Timor and elsewhere in the region!.
