Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: while WWII is one good answer - I would also suggest WWI Why WWI!? 1 - Russians are defeated by Germans - as a result Communists take over 2 - The US becomes a true world power 3 - treaty that ends the war sews the seeds for WWII 4 - a true war technology is developed (Mustard Gas, Machine guns, Airplanes etc)Www@QuestionHome@Com I agree, on the basis of the effects upon people, that World War II would be a top choice for most significant event!. But, I'll be more specific, since the war itself wasn't exactly a specific event!. I'll suggest that the German invasion of Poland in 1940 was the trigger event that started World War II!. After the invasion of Poland, the British and French began to fight the Germans, and the Germans turned from bit-by-bit aggression, to a policy of an all-out war to conquer Europe, Africa, and the Middle East!. If you want something more scientific, I would suggest the landing of men on the Moon in 1969!. In the long-term, this event may be more significant to the long-term history of mankind than World War II!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Actually, the assasination of Duke Ferdinand and the start of WWI was the most significant, because it shaped the rest of the century!. If Germans hadn't been so down after WWI, then the second world war never would have happened!. Anyway from a POLITICAL perspective!.!.!.
