Question: Is my Civil War paper accurate!?
This is a journal entry I wrote from the point of view of someone who was in the Battle of Shiloh!. The person talking is fictional, and I have not edited it yet, but are the events and stuff accurate!? Here it is:

The Journal of James Gartoro
The Battle of Shiloh

April 5, 1862
The frigid night air pierced through my worn wool coat like so many knives thrust into a piece of meat!. Trying to sleep on the cold ground with nothing but an old coat for covering, was becoming harder and harder with each night!. I pray that this cruel war will end by June and I can go home to my beloved wife Sarah, and my lovely daughter Clara!. I set off with an uplifted heart at first!. But now, I see that war is not all fun and games!. This isn’t a poker game at William McPherson’s house; this is human lives being sacrificed for an argument!. Why can’t the North just forfeit the Southern land to those who were born here!? What right have they to our land!? They should leave us alone! Even if they didWww@QuestionHome@Com

First I have to say you are a great writer!. So, even a small mistake and I'm not sure the teacher would even notice!. However, General Johnston died on April 6, 1862!. Here is a link to a site listing his death date!. http://www!.nndb!.com/people/252/000050102!.!.!.

Like I said though your writing is great, I would probably leave it the way it is and if the teacher says anything, let them know you found out after you had written it the date was wrong!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well written except one point (unless it was intentional-how accurate do you want to be!?)
The civil war was not about land!.
The civil war was about States Rights in the south (slave states) and about Union preservation in the north (abolitionist states)!. In a round about way the war was about slavery, though not officially and definately not about land at all - it was all about the rights of states versus the rights of the national government!. Southerners wanted to be able to make new states and territories into slave states and the north wanted them to be free states, as importation of slaves was banned by law in the early 1800's!. The south said that since slaves were not people but property they could transport their property anywhere they wanted, including new states!. The north disagreed, immediately causing South Carolina to secede and declaration of war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
