also, people in places where the war was going on, and they were being pushed into it, but they didn't want to take part!.!.

The BBC history site is great for a basic overview!.

When you write “on neither side”, do you mean trying to remain neutral, although some parts of the country were relatively free of actual war it was almost impossible, not to say dangerous, not to be drawn into one side or the other, or at least learn to cheer the winning side(s) when they passed through your town!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
