Question: What were the intermediate and underlying causes of World War II !?

First understand it was really TWO wars, one in the east, one in the west!.
The eastern one is easy: The Japanese were the most advanced nation there after studying the west and realized that to follow the capitalist model, they needed resources!.!.!.!.and since they only had a 4 big islands and a bunch of smaller ones, they wanted to take a big chunk of china to get resources!. Since everyone was busy fighting the Germans and Italians in the West, they figured they could pull it off while everyone was distracted!.

In the West, many would argue that the penalties put on Germany after WWI were the cause of their desire to warmonger in WWII!. They were not allowed to have any military and they owed billions of dollars (a lot back then) to pay for the trouble they caused in WWI!. This meant they were stuck, their hands were tied, so it was only natural that they would want to shift the power and have a shot at being at least a regional power again, if not hegemonic power!.
Germany was really suffering too, so it wasn't hard for Hitler to convince everyone that any change would be a good thing and as a proud people, they believed they had a right to power!.
There are also arguments about sea lanes, and how Germany would be the logical one to try to take over being at the center of civilization from certain points of view and history reveals this may be true!.

Hope that helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
