Question: Can the bible be considered a historical book!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Since much of the Bible cannot be verified outside the Bible itself, no!. There probably would also be an outcry from some people not of the faith with the inference that a book of faith is a book of fact!. A few aspects do match some history points!. One is the linking of Christ's birth to Herod's reign places the year of birth to be from 8 to 12 BC!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

None of the New Testament is of any value at all in that it cannot be corroborated by other historical evidence and what little detail there is that can be confirmed by historical record has been shown to be inaccurate!.

As for the Old Testament , it is a mixture of myth, allegory, legend, laws, etc, etc, - and some history!. The history is distorted to serve the politico-religious purposes of the authors but a few incidents, such as the Siege of Jerusalem are passably accurate historically!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Although many scholars believe that there are some parts of the Bible that can be used (to a degree) for historical reference the vast majority of the text can not be viewed as historically accurate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
