Actually, while the play is listed as a tragedy, it does not fit into the strictures of a Shakespearean tragedy (the hero is destroyed, but at the end he comes to understand that a flaw of his own has caused his downfall)!. Caesar is killed way too early and he certainly has not learned that he got his just desserts!. The other person who might be the tragic hero, Brutus, IS killed at the end, but even though he learns that he has joined with unreliable cohorts he does not come to a conclusion that he has brought destruction upon himself!.

The play should probably be viewed as one of his Histories, or maybe just the prequel to the actual Tragedy of Antony and Cleopatra!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

because he is not only the main character but he is betrayed by his best friend and then killed by his best friend!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
