Question: For the Civil War buffs!?
can anyone tell me if it was acommon practice to name your musket or weapon during the war!? And if so what were some popular names!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

A lot of people did and it's even mentioned in their diaries!. There will be some comment about how "me and old Betsy took on them rebs (or yanks)"!. Most names were of their mothers or girlfriends!. Even the big guns had names, but that practice started 500 years before the Civil War and continues to this day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not really, at least among the conscripts!. This myth comes from Hollywood and the Davy Crockett craze of the 50's!. I'm sure however some farmer/soldiers particularly from the south had names for their squirrel guns!.

Now during the Revolutionary war there was a musket called the "Brown Bess", but that was because of the finish of the metal, which was brown!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
