On D-Day Allied forces landed on the beaches of northern France, and so began the German retreat back across the Rhine and into Germany!. Patton and Montgomery had already led forces into Europe through Sicily some time later, but were stalled at the Alps!. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan were called "Fat Man" and "Little Boy", and were dropped from a bomber called the "Enola Gay"!. The bombs were delivered to a secret air base in the Pacific by the USS Indianapolis, whose mission was so secret they were sunk on their return home and received no rescue aid for 3 days; about 900 sailors out of 1,100 that survived the initial attack, died from exposure or shark attacks over the next 3 days!. The bombs dropped on Japan came in the 2nd week of August, 1945!. Germany had already surrendered by then (in June 1945)!. The Germans met the same fate as Napoleon and many others when they tried to attach Stalingrad in 1942: the Russian winters and the resolve of the Russian people led to a brutal defeat of the Germans, and started a retreat that ultimately allowed the Russians to chase the Germans all the way to Berlin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com As a result of losing World War 2 Germany lost the states of East Prussia to Poland and Russia, Silesia, Pomerania, to Poland and the Sudetenland in (then) Czechoslovakia!.
