They lost over a half million troops, an entire army!. No German field Marshall in history had surrendered before Von Paulus!. Very few of them ever returned to Germany!. Some were still held prisoner by the Soviets until the late 1950's!.!.!.!.!.!.Von Paulus surrendered over 300,000 men but total casualties were about a million!. I read Steven A answer after this it did not end Germany's offensive capability on the Eastern front!. That was the Battle of Kursk later!.!.!.!. But it was a major defeat and a turning point of the war!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Germans lost over 800,000 killed, wounded or captured in the battle!. Much of their offensive capability in the east was lost!. Something like 91,000 soldiers were captured because Hitler refused to let them retreat ordering them to fight to the death!. Of these captured soliders only about 5000 survived the war!.
As far as land is concerend, it was all fought in Russia so they only lost occupied territory!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
