I have a couple of famous ancestors, including one with the same last name (its less frequent than you may think)!.

I had a relative that was a Texas Martyr during the period when Texas was its own nation!. He was a Captain in the Texas Rangers!. They went on a raid into Mexican territory to strike back for a raid the Mexicans had made!. They were captured, killed some guards and escaped!. They were recaptured and Santa Anna ordered them all executed!. The commander of the Mexican force that captured them refused to kill them all!. Instead, all of the men had to draw beans from a hat (white, you would live, black you would be executed)!. The first officer to draw a black bean was my relative!. He is known in Texas history as "The First Black Bean!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

More came over in the mid eighteenth century and fought in the Revolutionary War!.

Other fought in the Civil War and owned large swaths of land in Massachusetts!.

One side of my family tree is Choctaw Indian, the smallest of the Cherokee Nation or Five tribes, whose traditional lands were the northwest corner of what became Tennessee!.!. This goes back to the early 1810s when my Scotch-Irish relatives took land-grants for service in the Revolutionary War and moved westward!.

Some Choctaw's did not move West, and weren't dispossessed, of their holdings!. They were farmers and store owners who integrated with the new American settlers, which was common to many Cherokee Indians, who realized that fighting would be futile!.

The oddity is that my European roots are the border region where Scotland and England once divided!. Having fought against and refused to accept English rule, the English deported them, first to Ulster, and from there to Virginia!. They continued to fight the English in the New World, but declared peace by inter-marriageWww@QuestionHome@Com

A sailor for the Dutch West Indies Company!. He was born in Amsterdam in 1520 and was killed in New Amsterdam in 1649!. I few things in between like marriage and 3 kids, but mainly the important part for me was the settling in New Holland in 1543!. Welcome to America!.!.!.!.

Edit!.!.!.Well, if we're telling all!.!.!.
Members of my family have served in each of this countries conflicts!.
My GR-GR-Gr-Gr-Great Granddaddy has his family attacked by the Creeks in Tennessee, some children taken captive, some scalped, and one survived the scalping!.
One of My Great-great-great Uncles owned the company that made the suit Abe Lincoln worn in his 1860 Inaugural Address!.
Had a distant cousin executed by the Texicans a few years ago!.
Had a Distant Niece Killed by McVay in the OKC bombing!.
