Few parts of Africa have been left untouched by the slave trade!. You seem to require info about mainly the people who were captured and came to North America, so that makes a difference as to how your question should be answered!. The large majority of Africans who found their way to North America came from West Africa, mainly the region that now has the countries of Benin, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal and Cote I'voire!. Traders often referred to this part of Africa as "Slave Coast"!. Many bought or captured slaves would have come from the Yoruba, Oyo and Ashanti people!. The main slave trading countries of Europe were England, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands!. One thing that has appeared many times in my own reading about the African trade in humans was that slavery was common in Africa long before the Europeans arrived!. That in no way excuses the practice though!. In some African societies enslavement of their own people and those from other tribes was common and in turn they sold these people to traders from all over that part of the world: Arabs, Europeans and Persians!. The slave trade has to be one of the examples of the most inhumane behaviours of humankind!. There are few parts of the world that are not part of the legacy of slavery!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Africa!. Most from equatorial Africa!. But from all over!. Slave raiders were white, mixed race, other African tribes and Arabs!. They forcibly attacked and took captives to sell or traded for them!. It was an ugly business and it started long before they arrived on slave ships!. For a long time the British port of Liverpool was the major center for slave trade!. It got a reputation for fast ships and it was also a long time center for British privateers in wartime's!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Gold Coast of Africa had many trading posts!. Africans created the African slave trade!. The same way the Tutsi and Hutus hate each other in modern times to the point of ethnic cleansing!.Africans used hate and slaughter each other in those days too!. When one tribe defeated another the ones they did not murdered, maimed or raped they sold to the Arab slave traders!.The Arabs had trading posts throughout coastal areas!.Trying to blame black slavery on the Europeans is the politically correct way of avoiding to face the truth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They came mainly from south Western Africa (Nigeria, Sierra Leone, etc) which was known as "The Slave Coast!." It was a particularly unstable area of Africa because it was also The Gold Coast and the various indiginous nations were already fighting each other over the gold, now they were fighting each other to capture slaves for export!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A vast stretch of West Africa used to be called Guinea, but now Guinea is only one small country among many in that region!. Most of the slaves were taken from West Africa, stretching between present-day Senegal and present-day Angola and reaching into the continent into places like Mali and eastern Angola!. They were taken prisoner inland and marched to sea ports!.

I've heard that some were taken from East Africa, like around Mozambique and Tanzania but that was far less common!. Arabic slave traders were more active in East Africa!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
