Question: What were the origins of the Cold War!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
when the allied forces won ww2 there was the question of what to do next!. the cold war was driven by differing philosophies of soviet union and us, competition for complete influence, and extensive propaganda!.

differing philosophies- soviets believed in communism, ever since 1917 and sought to spread it using Comintern!.!.
americans thought it was the wrong way for a country to thrive!. thus they fought to "contain" communism to the places where it was already prevalent, known as containment!. this included the marshall plan, the truman doctrine which sent aid to countries fighting communism!. It was done to protect both idealogical and economic interests!. Americans wanted to trade with non-communist countries!.
this angered the soviets!. the soviets thought the american foreign policy was a direct threat against their way of life and their policy!.

a literal arms race for influence and power!. the detonation of the first atomic bomb by the americans spurred soviet activity to create one of their own!. they achieved it, and got a hydrogen bomb, and then made the first space thing called Sputnik in 1957!. this was an embarrassment for US and then quickly made one of their own in 1958!. also, in terrestrial affairs, americans and soviets fought over Berlin!. Soviets made a blockade on berlin late in the 40s, and the Westerners (US, britain, france) air lifted supplies to the west berliners!. years later, Soviet premier nikita krushchev made a wall in Berlin in the early 1960s as a "boo-ya!" to the west!. this heightened tensions even more!. also, the bay of pigs incident applies here because we tried to take over cuba's government and overthrow the Soviet-sponsored communist government, the U2 crisis and the cuban missile crisis which were fights over authority and spheres of influence between the two nations!. we made nato with the democratized nations and the communists responded with the Warsaw Pact!.

extensive propaganda and exposure- there was a hatred of communism since the 1920s, with the Palmer raids and the sacco and vanzetti trial, which were anti-anarchy and anti-communism!. Alger hiss trial, which accused a successful politician of communist ties, the hollywood blacklist of movie makers who had communist ties and the Rosenberg trial which involved a couple selling the ingredients of the atomic bomb to the Soviets!. all of these instances share the fact that they were heavily publicized in the nation and involved people believed to be "enemies" of the nation!. also the McCarthyism "confirmed" that communists had infiltrated the government!. all of these incidents instilled fear and hatred of communism!.

thus the reasons why America fought the cold war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

WWII!.
The Soviets were determined to take over their half of Europe - which we basically handed them on a silver platter!.
They got those Countries which they had liberated from the Nazis and we got the West!.
The Soviets continued threat to seize more Countries, the rise of the Communist Chinese both served to exacerbate the Cold War!.

Are you saying that Russia financed the KKK!? Jeez - you and Joe McCarthy (and Hoover, of course)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
