Hitler used Darwin's theory of the Survival of the Fittest to prove Aryans were smater, stronger etc also the Theories of Sigmund Freud!.!.!.!.and even used the bumps on one's head to deterine such things!. Stalin felt the government made a better parent!. Wiped out those with opposing views!. Social Darwinism was a 20th-century reinterpretation of the 19th-century philosophy of Herbert Spencer, who wrote before Darwin!. Spencer believed in both cooperation and competition, but like most Victorians, wrote more about competition!. He believed that progressively-better social institutions would develop, and he believed in laissez-faire!. IIRC, he coined the phrase "survival of the fittest" to refer to social institutions and not to individuals!. Hitler was a Nazi!. The Nazis called themselves "National Socialists" but they weren't socialists!. It's similar to how the North Korean Government calls itself a "People's Democratic Republic," when it isn't!. Nazis were racists!. Stalin was, or claimed to be, a Marxist!. Marxism is one branch of socialism, and Marxists believe that an intermediate stage is necessary between capitalism (or in the Russian case, late feudalism) and communism!. Marxists have usually been anti-racists!. Most Marxists have been democratic socialists, imagining a democratic state regulating the economy during the transition to communism, and then withering away at the beginning of communism; others are autonomous Marxists and combine Marxist and anarchist ideas!. Stalin was a totalitarian Marxist, rejecting democracy, and believing that a totalitarian state was necessary in Russia during this transition; it might not be necessary in other countries!.
