Question: How many stars did the Union flag have during the Civil War!?
When I googled for the images, some sources gave me images with each flag having a different array of stars!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

At the begining there were 34 states in the union, at the end 36, with the formation of West Virginia seceding from Virginia and Nevada joining in 1865!. The states were divided in half so each part of the country, north had 17 at the start and 18 at the end!. The same for the south!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

35 stars for most of the civil war !. Arranged in a circle within a circle with one star at each corner of the the blue field !. Inner circle represented the states that seceded !. Outer circle represented the states that stayed in the union !. The four corner stars for the slave states that didn't secede !.Www@QuestionHome@Com
