America's role in Vietnam was to try to squash the native army to prove that we were the biggest, most powerful country in the world, from a blunt point of view!. I wouldn't say that our policy was innocently based on containing Communism!. It was about power and control, and thumbing our nose at the USSR!. Johnson lied to the public with the Tonkin Resolution, making it seem Communism was a threat, when really, the Vietnamese just wanted their country back from foreigners!. If you think the US did Vietnam a favor by trying to keep Communism out, then explain why during the American occupation, prostitution was the most lucrative career!?
