Question: How were the Russian colonies in America different from the colonies made by other countries!?

The Russian colonies in America were only semi-permanent outposts!. Unlike say, the British in America, who settled their colonies with millions of immigrants!. The Russians established outposts in Alaska and as far south as modern day California (there is a restored fort near San Fransisco that they originally built)!. The Russian "colonies" were usually just small wood constructed forts used to engage in trade with native Americans and as bases for ocean fishing!. They were there more to prop up Russia's land claims than to actually support large populations of colonists!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Russian colonies had cool gangsters like Vigo Mortensen in Eastern Promises, and the other colonies werent cool enough to have people like him!.

Go see the movie, its tight!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They weren't much different except for the fact that the Russians didn't settle any place large scale and they used extortion to get the fur they wanted from the natives!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
