The atomic bomb is a weapon of mass destruction no matter which angle you look at it!. The bombing of Japan was not necessary to win the Second World War and therefore the American nation cannot be justified in their act of murder!. Can anybody recommend reliable sources to support my thesis!. If it were Germany who bombed New York, then lost the war anyway, can there be any doubt that the people involved in the bombing would have been tried for war crimes!? However, as I'm frequently playing Devil's Advocate, I have to point out the following!. 1) I see no convincing evidence that Operation Downfall could have succeeded, as we were still fighting in the outlying islands when the bomb was dropped!. 2) Instead of being over in three years, the war was ended in a few days!. Was the cost of a 30,000 Japanese worth the potential cost of millions of Americans, Japanese, Chinese and Russians!? Potentially up to 20 million!. I agree that dropping a weapon of mass destruction on women and children is no way to fight a war!. It's absolutely deplorable, and is without honor!. But lets move on!. Japan did not surender when the US dropped the second atomic bomb on Japan!. Most people are incorrect, thinking that the atomic bombs ended the war!. The Emperor believed every last Japanese person should die for him!. Because he was God!. Ever man, woman and child!. The one item that scared him: Russa declaring war on Japan!. This is what actually ended the war!. Russa did not want to suffer the huge losses needed to attack Japan!. And was not willing to do it!. After the first atomic bomb was droped, and Russa knew that no one would need to invade Japan!. That is when they declared war on Japan!. So if there was some way Russa could have declared war on Japan!. Without us droping the bomb!. Maybe by demonstrating for Key Russian people!. They might have declared war on Japan!. Had we attempted the invasion, the only other option of winning the war, the loss of life would have been in the millions!. It would have also meant the total destruction of Japan as a nation!. The Hiroshima raid pales in comparison to the Tokyo raid a few months earlier, and the casualties from that are nothing compared to the number of Chinese killed by the Japanese!. The rape of China and yamato damashii took Japan out of the realm of consideration for any humanitarian thought!. Nagasaki, slightly fewer at about 80,000!. Those are horrendous numbers of civilians to die in virtually the blink of an eye!. Here are some more horrendous numbers for you to think about!. US military personnel estimated that an invasion of Japan in 1945 or 1946 would have resulted in over ONE MILLION US and allied casualties and upwards of TEN MILLION Japanese casualties!. The atomic bombs took 200,000 lives!. An invasion would have taken an estimated eleven million lives!.
