Wow - great question!. The answer is probably!. The fact of the matter is stuff happens all the time in the modern era - people get outraged and move on!. In a time when a news story has a shelve life of a week - the media might of only dealt with it for a while then just went into the next "flavor of the week"!.

I would say that the USS Liberty reference would be used a lot more!. Had the internet been around back then - it would be in the "lexicon of history" instead of a horrible event that 2 governments didn't want to talk about!. Lets face it Israel and the United States would of been happy if no one ever knew about it and back in that late 60's, it was easier for governments to "put the lid on a story"!.

At the same time - would of technology prevented something like the attack on the Liberty!. You know communication technology would of been better!. 1) the Israelis would of been 100% certain the ship was American and perhaps wouldn't of attacked 2)!. The Americans would of been able to defend themselves properly if they didn't received the proper acknowledgment from the approaching aircraft!.

I mean lets face it - it really makes no sense for Israel to attack a US Ship in international waters!. We were pretty much the one major power that had shown them a little "love"!. In no way were Israel and the US as close in 1967 and they are now!. As terrible as the incident was - it really was an accident!. I think one of the reasons this story never became some gigantic political event was because even the most ardent conspiracy theorists could really come up with anything!. I mean - even the Isreali torpedo boats came up to the ship to assist once they realized they fired on an American ship (there was an Egyptian ship in the general vicinity)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
