The Great Depression was brought on by a number of factors, all piling one on top of the other!. The Wikipedia article already mentioned is a good source of info!. One thing viewed as a triggering event was the stock market crash in 1929, which showed the weaknesses that had been hidden in the financial marketplace at that time!. Panic then kicked in, leading to a run on banks that deepend the overall problems!. It wouldn't have been quite so bad if other issues hadn't sprung up locally in the US and then spread around the world!. In terms of reactions to it!? Not a lot of people still around today were adults during the GD, but there are many lessons to be learned from the way our grandparents acted when we were growing up!. For example, my wife's great grandmother never through anything away, and always carried a little bag pinned to her clothing with all of her money in it-she didn't trust banks!. It could be little things, like making sure to squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom to the top to make sure you get all of it out of the tube to larger things like burying money in the backyard!. It certainly fostered an air of conservation and thrift!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
