To elaborate on Unitedcats!.!.!.!. excellent answer!.
7th (Flieger) Air Division, Composition- 1st parachute Reg!. 2nd parachute Reg!. 3rd parachute Reg, 7th Artillery Batt!., 7th parachute anti-tank Batt!., 7th parachute Flak Batt!., 7Th Air Div!. machine Gun Bat!., 7th Air Engineer Bat!.
The 7th Air Division was, as stated earlier the original Parachute Division formed in 1938!. Commanded overall by Generalmajor Kurt Student!. The Division was not completed by the time war broke out!. The 3rd parachute Reg was not completed until the fall of France!. In Russia 1942 the original 7th Flieger Division was reorganized and renamed the 1st Parachute Division!.
It should be noted that the 7th Air Division is NOT the 7th Parachute Division which was created in 1944!.
After the issues in Crete, which in reality was a success!. The Parachute troops were used primarily as an infantry fire brigade apart from an occasional air drop during various portions through out the war!. They were for the most part some of the best soldiers of the war!. In my opinion better trained then the Waffen SS!.
I would agree that there were maybe around 14,000 troops in the 7th Air Division!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The largest German airborne drop in World War two was Crete, about 8,000 German paratroopers and glider troops landed on the first day!. They suffered dreadful losses, and Hitler lost faith in paratroops and they were never used again in any large scale operations!.

Before Crete they were also used in smaller numbers in Norway, Denmark, Holland, and in Belgium to seize important bridges, airports, and capture the Belgium fort at Eben Emael!. Glider troops rescued Mussolini in 1943!.

More specifically, the 7th Flieger Division (later the 1st Fallschirmajager Division) had a paper strength of some 14,000 I believe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
