What country are we talking about, please!?

This is the English language site, but there are people on here from the US, Canda, Ireland, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and other places that also speak English!. The answer to your question would depend on the country about which you are enquiring!. Most of the countries would have "knicknames the people gave the police in the victorian times"!.

Victorian Era - 1830s to 1900!?

In the US I would say the nickname would be cop, or copper!.

"Around the year 1700, the slang verb cop entered English usage, meaning "to get ahold of, catch, capture!." By 1844, cop showed up in print, and soon thereafter the -er suffix was added, and a policeman became a copper, one who cops or catches and arrests criminals!. Copper first appeared in print in 1846, the use of cop as a short form copper occured in 1859!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

They were sometimes called 'slops'!. This comes from a Victorian slang called backslang, in which some words were spoken backwards!. So 'beer' = 'reeb', 'pot' = 'top', 'police' = 'ecilop', which was a bit awkward to pronounce, hence 'slops'!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
