Many slaves ran away to join the union army during the Civil War!. Lincoln credited the 180,000 black union soldiers with 'helping turn the tide of the war'!.
The movie 'Glory' showed Denzel Washington's character was one!.
Slaves didn't know the outcome of the war until after it was over, so naturally some still tried to escape!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
